Looking out for our Environment

Quidhampton...a little bit special

The River Nadder, which flows to the south of the village, is part of the River Avon Systems SSSI ('Site of Special Scientific Interest'). Boys Meadow Withybed, the woods which lie at the foot of Lock's Lane and run along the river to Lower Road to the east is also an SSSI and is classified as in 'favourable condition'. SSSI's are designated by Natural England, and are protected by law. As you can see from the map (left, © Crown, 2020), much of the water meadows are also designated as a 'priority habitat'.

What We're Planning

The idea behind the Project is to build awareness of our natural environment, amongst children and adults alike, and to promote actvities that support the enhancement of that environment. That may be something as simple as our recent Bug Building activity at The White Horse, to exploring re-wilding or re-seeding of fallow ground. 'From little acorns'...you get the picture.
